Kit Tennison Moncrief is the newly elected chair of the 杏吧传媒 Board of Trustees, making her 杏吧传媒鈥檚 first female chair.
鈥淚 am very pleased to announce that long-serving Trustee Kit Moncrief has agreed to help lead 杏吧传媒 into the next years of Horned Frog history as 杏吧传媒鈥檚 first female Chair,鈥� Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. said. 鈥淜it鈥檚 leadership and service 鈥� both to 杏吧传媒 and within our Fort Worth community 鈥� will benefit generations to come. We are excited to welcome her to this new role, especially during this historic year as 杏吧传媒 celebrates 150 years of leadership and excellence in academics and community.鈥�
Mark Johnson is the immediate past chairman, who capably led the board for six years during some of the most dynamic and defining years of the university鈥檚 history. He will continue to serve as 杏吧传媒 Trustee. Moncrief has a long legacy of leadership at 杏吧传媒 and has served as board vice chair since 2017. Her late husband, 鈥�72, also served as a 杏吧传媒 Trustee, as did Moncrief鈥檚 mother, Gloria (Lupton) Tennison.
鈥淎s a child, I learned from my parents, especially my mother, the importance of education and giving back,鈥� Moncrief said. 鈥淎s Chair, I hope to continue her legacy and love and passion for 杏吧传媒, while supporting the university into its next 150 years.鈥�
Established in 1874, the Board of Trustees enables 杏吧传媒 to carry out its mission by setting policy and developing long-term institutional strategy. The board meets twice per year and consists of up to 50 members, and its bylaws also provide for emeritus and honorary members. The primary functions of the Board are to establish and promote the overall strategic direction for the university; hire and evaluate on a regular basis the Chancellor; and undertake other duties based on current needs or issues under the leadership of an elected chair.
Moncrief is very involved in Fort Worth philanthropy, currently serving as president of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and co-chairing the Fort Worth Zoological Association. She is past president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation and the Moncrief Cancer Foundation. In addition, Moncrief is a board member of UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Institute, the Brown Lupton Foundation, Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (serving on the Executive Committee), The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. She also co-founded the Saving Hope Foundation, an organization with the intent to end animal abuse and neglect through advocacy, education and spay-neuter programs.
Outside of Fort Worth, Moncrief serves on the board of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Southwestern Medical Foundation and the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women鈥檚 Health National Advisory Board.
