Second-Year Physician Assistant Studies Student: Zackary Mullen

Zack in his white coatHi, I'm Zackary Mullen and I'm a second-year Physician Assistant (PA) Studies student. What I have learned from the clinical year so far is that I know more than I thought I did at the end of didactic year. I was nervous going into it, but I quickly gained confidence and I have been learning so much from my preceptor.

Here is what a day in my life looks like:

Typically, my day starts off commuting to my clinic about a half hour away and I usually pick up a smoothie on my way into the building. Once I get to my computer, I check the schedule for the day and start reviewing the first patient’s chart to prepare for the visit. I then check my emails and login to Exxat and Rosh review. As I see patients throughout the day, I log the encounters in between patients, and when I have downtime I try to do about 10 practice questions per day and review the material for each diagnosis.

Once I finish for the day, I head home and make dinner and decompress for a few hours before reviewing the materials from today and making sure I have a good grasp on what I learned. Then I typically allow myself the rest of the night to do whatever I want such as playing video games or watching TV.
