Title IX

°Õ°ä±«â€™s Title IX Office works with appropriate departments within the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community to provide a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and faculty who are seeking advice and/or assistance if they have experienced sexual harassment, sexual battery, sexual assault, or rape. The office also assists ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students, staff, and faculty with filing an informal or formal complaint based on Title IX violations. 

Policies

ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ (ÐÓ°É´«Ã½) is committed to providing a positive learning, living and working environment free from discrimination and harassment.  In support of this commitment, in its policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, and Retaliation, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ prohibits a range of behaviors, including unlawful discrimination, harassment, and related sexual and other misconduct based on age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, ethnic origin, disability, predisposing genetic information, covered veteran status, and any other basis protected by law, except as permitted by law.  

ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ also prohibits retaliation against an individual for making a good faith report under this policy, for participating in proceedings under this policy, or for opposing in a reasonable manner conduct believed to be prohibited by this policy.  Any person who may have been subject to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, or retaliation should feel comfortable reporting their concerns without fear of retaliation.  ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ will take strong responsive action to threats or acts of retaliation.

Discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation are incompatible with °Õ°ä±«â€™s mission and can threaten the educational experience, careers and well-being of members of the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community, including employees, students, and visitors.  Such behavior will be addressed consistent with the policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, and Retaliation.  Reported violations of this policy may be pursued using the grievance procedures outlined in the policy. Additionally, any student or employee who engages in conduct prohibited by this policy may be subject to disciplinary action and sanctions up to and including termination or expulsion from ÐÓ°É´«Ã½.  ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ will take steps to prevent the recurrence of any harassment and to correct its discriminatory effects on a complainant and, if applicable, the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community.

ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in the University’s programs and activities and retaliation; the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), as amended by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA); Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII); Chapter 21 of the Texas Labor Code; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), and other applicable laws.
